2023-24 Call for Events
MIT MAD invites MIT-wide submissions for event support and collaborations around design.
Jun 20, 2023
Are you organizing an event around design? We may help.
We are pleased to announce an opportunity for all within MIT to apply for support to elevate existing and new design initiatives.
MAD is dedicated to celebrating design in its many forms, and to maximizing the impact of design activities already taking place across the Institute.
We invite departments, student organizations, research centers, and individuals within the MIT community to submit proposals for design-related events and projects. Whether you are planning a conference, workshop series, an exhibition, speaker series, or any other event involving design, we would love to hear from you!
Benefits & Requirements
You may receive one-time support in various forms, such as limited financial resources, collaboration around event planning and communications, and access to a network of designers at MIT.
SELECTION CRITERIA
In an effort to encourage crossdisciplinarity, events serving multiple audiences or units will be prioritized.
While “design” should be a clear component of the event, MAD accommodates many dimensions of design across fields, including processes, and artifacts.
APPLICATION DEADLINES
- Fall events: August 1
- January / IAP events: October 1
- Spring events: November 1
HOW TO APPLY?

Testimonials
“The Sloan Design Club is immensely appreciative to the MAD team for their ongoing partnership in developing a design community across the MIT ecosystem. Their help facilitating our Fireside Chat with Tiffany Chu (Chief of Staff to Mayor Michelle Wu) and organizing a User Journeys Workshop with service designer Evan Chan was critical to making both events engaging and meaningful for students.
The Sloan Design Club is passionate about promoting design thinking, creativity, and empathy as lens to problem solving across sectors and disciplines. A collaboration with MAD is key to connecting design-minded students through in-person events and fostering community. We are excited to continue working with MAD to keep driving this mission forward.”

“It's hard to find time and energy to organize design reviews, though we know that they help teams overcome challenges, generate new ideas, and connect with relevant people. Funding and promotion support from MAD gave us extra incentive to organize another successful design review and we look forward to more of these in the future.”
