MakerLodge Becomes M1T
The extracurricular training program teaching making skills open to all MIT first-year undergraduate students becomes M1T (Makerspace First-Year Training).
Oct 28, 2024
The maker training dedicated to First-Years previously known as MakerLodge becomes M1T (Makerspace First-Year Training). New name, new merch, same objective: quickly getting First-Years up to speed on the most common makerspace tools.
Students can choose between different experiences: digital fabrication (they learn how to use an FDM 3D printer and a laser cutter to load, process, and cut/print a design), manual fabrication (they learn how to use the bandsaw, the drill press, and sanders), and a device class allowing them to create a digital clock (they learn how to use the laser cutter, 3D printer, and basic soldering).
Completing M1T allows students to get access to key makerspaces, and receive Makerbucks (makerspace currency) to spend on supplies. The trainings are run by experienced student mentors and include practice on machines such as laser cutters, 3D printers, drill presses, and bandsaws.
