Bio

Layla Stanton is an undergraduate at MIT pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and Art & Design. Across classwork, research, and personal projects, she explores the intersection of robotics, assistive technology, wearables, and product design.

Through MIT’s Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, Layla has conducted research with the Self Assembly Lab, developing passively morphing handbags using non-electronic air capture technology. She also worked with CSAIL’s Computational Design and Fabrication group, exploring the accessible manufacture of custom FPCB-based tactile sensing gloves.

Layla has a passion for multi-media fabrication and is constantly expanding her creative and technical toolbox. As a director of fabrication for MIT’s annual fashion show, the MIT Gala, she organizes campus-wide fabrication workshops and offers garment-making expertise to 20+ designers. She is also a maker-space monitor at MAD where she helps maker-space users operate and maintain a variety of metal, wood, and electronics shop equipment.
